Slow Food Cascadia is an annual event held the first weekend in October, celebrating the region’s eco-gastronomy and held in Vancouver, Washington, the original gateway to the Oregon Territory.
The event is a partnership between Slow Food, Port of Vancouver, The Tod and Maxine McClaskey Culinary Institute of Clark College, and the City of Vancouver. Slow Food Cascadia is fiscally sponsored by Slow Food Southwest Washington, a 501c3. EIN #:75-3182016.
Cascadia is a region of cascading waters that feed the North Pacific Ocean.
From our home in the Columbia River Estuary, Cascadia’s waterways reach north to the Salish Sea and up through the Alaska Panhandle’s Inside Passage, inland to the Boise River, and south to the San Francisco Bay Delta.
In 2014, during a work session at Terra Madre, Slow Food’s international food conference , colleagues from across the Pacific Northwest joined together to discuss opportunities for collaboration. One idea was to launch an annual Slow Food event to highlight the growing food culture in the region.
Members of the Southwest Washington chapter have continued to nurture this idea, and brought together a partnership of local agencies to host the regional Slow Food gathering for the first five years (2018-2022). The event aspires to rotate hosting sites around the region starting in 2023.
